505 Digital Control for Steam Turbines

    505 Controller - web

The 505 controller is purpose built to provide exemplary operation and protection of your industrial steam turbines. This user-configurable steam turbine controller includes specifically designed screens, algorithms, and event recorders to simplify use in controlling industrial steam turbines or turbo-expanders, driving generators, compressors, pumps, or industrial fans.

    Operator Control Panel (OCP)

The 505 controller's user-friendly OCP allows plant operators to easily start and stop the turbine as well as enable/disable all control modes. The controller's multi-lingual 8.4-inch (20 cm) graphical display allows operators to view actual and setpoint values from the same screen, simplifying turbine operation in their own language. Functioning like a window into the turbine and its driven equipment, the 505's front panel allows users to monitor and control all modes of operation, verify dynamic response via real-time trending screens, and understand the turbine's performance capabilities through a real-time plotted steam performance map (extraction or admission steam turbines only).

    505 Controller Versions

The base 505 model is designed for simple single valve steam turbine applications where basic turbine control, protection, and monitoring are required. The 505 controller's integrated OCP, overspeed protection, and trip events recorder make it ideal for small steam turbine applications where overall system cost is a concern.

The 505XT model is designed for more complex single valve, single extraction or single admission steam turbine applications where more analog or discrete I/O (inputs and outputs) are required.

    Simplified System Upgrades

Modernizing your aging technology to a better solution that will optimize performance and productivity has never been easier! Our new 505 and 505XT are direct drop-in replacements (form, fit and function) to your existing 505 systems. In addition, upgrading your system is made even simpler through Woodward's new OptiTune PID technology which analyzes through an "auto-tune" function the steam turbine's dynamic system response and then calculates the optimum P, I, and D settings. No longer do you have to depend on inadequately trained engineering teams to dynamically adjust your turbine system control loops for optimum operation and performance.

To enhance the usability of the 505 controller, you might consider purchasing the operator interface software and the handy AppManager tool.

    RemoteView

Once installed on a computer or touch panel, the RemoteView operator interface software can be used as an engineering workstation and/or remote operator control panel. As an operator control panel, this software program can be used to monitor all system parameters, start and stop the turbine, and enable/disable all modes of operation. See details in product spec 03424.

    Control Assistant

The Control Assistant software program functions as an engineering workstation and/or service tool that can be used with the 505 control to view real-time trends, view saved trend files, or compare differences in configuration files. As an engineering workstation, this software program can be used to upload and download settings and log files to and from the 505 controller. See details in product spec 03424.

    AppManager
    With this tool you can:

    • set the IP addresses of the Ethernet ports
    • set SNTP functionality
    • program upload/download capability
    • retrieve datalog files
    • Start/Stop the display program (to change languages)
