Woodward Aircraft Turbine PMA

Permanent Magnet Alternator (PMA), part of an integrated turbine engine control system

A Permanent Magnet Alternator (PMA) can be used to supply power to an Electronic Engine Control (EEC) which is part of the turbine engine control system.

The PMA is typically driven by the accessory gearbox drive shaft. The mechanical rotation of the drive shaft is converted into energy by the PMA.

Woodward has used their expertise in Fuel Metering Unit packaging, design and manufacture to integrate the alternator within the fuel control up to speeds of 12,000 RPM. Advantages of this development include a smaller “system” footprint by integrating a conventional Line Replaceable Unit PMA.

Working in conjunction with the end user, Woodward can package and produce a fully integrated design to meet system requirements that deliver high quality output power in a very compact package, providing the benefits of reduced overall size and weight.
