Servovalves and Actuation Controls

An integrated approach to fluid control solutions

Woodward is recognized globally for expertise in servocontrol technology. Our technology is used wherever precise proportional control of fluid pressure and flow is required. Force displacement devices from Woodward are applicable for precise control of position, velocity, or force. Woodward servovalves are used on board aircraft such as the F16 and F18 fighters, Boeing series 717 through 777, Airbus A319, A320, A321, A330, and A340, Bombardier Global Express and Dash 8, Gulfstream V, Blackhawk and Commanche helicopters, and many others.

Our Torque Motors serve as electro-mechanical transducers that provide either proportional displacement, force output, or operate as an on/off switch, creating the link between the input current and the desired output.

Torque Motors are mated to Nozzle Flapper Servovalves (single or two-stage), and are available in various valving configurations for displacement, force, pressure, and flow control modes. Because they are frictionless, they provide smooth and stepless variations of output in response to an electrical output signal.

Our Shear Orifice (Clevis) servovalves offer similar results using a clevis as a flow-control device instead of the more typical Nozzle Flapper. Unlike Nozzle Flapper valves, the metering element is pressure-balanced and insensitive to changes in differential pressure across the metering element.

Woodward Jet pipe servovalves (single or two stage) provide a dual coil torque motor which moves across a receiver assembly. The Jet-Pipe design is inherently more resistant to fluid contamination malfunctions.
