The SmartFire Plasma Ignition System has been designed for incorporation into dynamometer test cells. The system uses ionization feedback to provide 100 percent knock and misfire detection on an individual cylinder basis, giving operators crucial information for engine development and calibration. The system offers its own user-friendly PC interface, which allows the operator to view the ionization waveforms of each cylinder (the system can fire and monitor up to 12 cylinders)
To complement the dynamometer application, the system can also be configured for incorporation with a vehicle's engine control unit (ECU), allowing the SmartFire system to update the ECU automatically, continuously providing air/fuel ratio optimization and peak pressure (power) optimization, all on a cylinder-by-cylinder, real-time basis. The unit can fire up to 12 cylinders at speeds as high as 18 000 rpm, and was developed for design teams in Formula 1 racing programs and in automotive research and development at large. The SmartFire Plasma-12 system has a base price of US$22 475.00 per unit.
