SmartFire FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

What is Ionization Feedback?

Ionization Feedback refers to the signal produced by measuring the conductivity within the spark plug gap after the spark has extinguished. This conductivity is a result of combustion by products. The Smartfire control module converts this signal into digital data, which can be read to provide a wide range of combustion information, from peak pressure location to knock and misfire data.

Does the additional energy from the second capacitor extend spark duration?

No, the additonal energy translates to a high current spike for a few microseconds once the spark has occurred. This high current spike is superimposed on the beginning of traditional spark current waveform. This extra current aids combustion in the form of extra heat to the infant flame kernel.
