Our autopilot actuators are available in a range of configurations. We offer simplex and duplex redundant DC servo configurations, as well as fully integrated smart packages with integral brushless DC fail-passive control electronics. Woodward designs are adaptable to customer-specific needs based on levels of control and safety. Ancillary products such as cable drum brackets are also available.

Embraer 170-190 Pitch and Roll

Woodward’s most capable autopilot servo consists of a family of fail-passive actuators able to drive any cockpit flight control input during autopilot operation. The launch platform for this system was the Embraer 170-190, where the Pitch and Roll autopilot functions are performed.

These smart brushless DC actuators are commanded by a CAN BUS Digital Interface. An internally packaged Dual-Microprocessor Electronics Module controls the motor. Our combination of components provides the fail-passive characteristics necessary for CAT3B operation. This Woodward product has received TSO approval.
