Reliable local power generation sources are an important requirement on islands or other remote locations where electrical grid connection is not available. While traditional diesel or gas generator sets are the most stable source of power, their fuel consumption can be reduced by mixing in photovoltaic (PV) power, a clean, renewable source of energy from the sun. One challenge, however, is maintaining stability on cloudy days when PV is reduced.
