Exposure Beyond a Single Role: How Woodward’s Rotation Program Accelerates Growth

When Chloe joined Woodward’s Operations Management Rotation Program, she expected to develop supply chain and operations skills. What surprised her was how quickly she gained exposure to different elements of the business.

The Operations Management Rotation Program is designed to help participants build experience across key areas of operations, supply chain, planning and purchasing while developing professional and leadership skills. Through rotational assignments, mentorship and cross-functional learning opportunities, members gain a broader understanding of how the business operates.

For Chloe, that experience began immediately. Working alongside Nate, master scheduler and her rotation leader, she participated in supplier visits, cross-functional meetings and conversations with leaders across Woodward. Rather than focusing on a single role, she gained insight into how planning, purchasing and supplier management work together to support operations.

That exposure accelerated her development. Chloe completed a four-month learning plan within her first 30 days and quickly expanded her responsibilities. Within her first three months in the program, she progressed from observing supplier discussions to participating in and eventually leading supplier calls independently.

According to Nate, creating opportunities for hands-on learning is a key part of helping Rotation Program members succeed. By introducing Chloe to different teams, leaders and business processes, he helped create a learning experience that extended beyond day-to-day responsibilities.

Experiences like Chloe’s reflect the purpose of Woodward’s Rotation Program: helping emerging professionals develop the knowledge, skills and business perspective needed to contribute across functions and grow their careers.
