Manufacturing facility will produce critical aircraft components and create around 275 jobs
On November 3, we officially broke ground on Woodward’s new aerospace manufacturing facility at Smith Farms Industrial Park in Greer, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, an exciting step toward a 300,000-square-foot plant designed for industry-leading manufacturing and future growth. When complete, the facility is expected to create approximately 275 jobs.
Around 50 guests joined the celebration, including representatives from Spartanburg County and the City of Greer. Speakers included Shawn McLevige, Aerospace President; Colin Rorabaugh, Program Manager for the new operation; and Spartanburg County Council Chairman A. Manning Lynch. The event wrapped with the traditional “gold shovel” photo, with several members of our leadership team and our development partners.
The facility will focus on production of servo-hydraulic actuation systems, which are critical components used in aircraft flight control. Initially, most of the factory’s capacity will be dedicated to producing spoiler actuation for the Airbus A350. These critical control systems are mounted on the upper surface of aircraft wings and play a vital role in managing lift and enhancing flight performance and safety. The site has potential to expand capacity as the company meets growing demand for its aerospace technologies.
The facility represents an investment of about $200 million with operations anticipated to begin in 2027. After an extensive nationwide search, Woodward selected Spartanburg County for its robust manufacturing infrastructure, access to highly skilled aerospace talent, and proximity to key suppliers.
“With your long history of innovation, engineering excellence, and dependability, you continue to tackle some of the world’s most complex challenges with expertise and vision. You take on big problems — and deliver big results. As your partner, Spartanburg County is committed to supporting your growth and success every step of the way. We look forward to growing alongside you.” Spartanburg County Council Chairman A. Manning Lynch
